John Joseph Porter

Dalton:

John Joseph Porter, Jr., age 63 of rural Dalton, died at his home on Wednesday, March 8, 2023.

John was born on March 6, 1960 in New Jersey, the son of John Joseph Sr. and Elizabeth Ann (Bittle) Porter. In 1979 he graduated from high school in Kearny, NJ. He enlisted in the US Army in July of 1979 and honorably discharged in January of 1985. John worked as a correctional officer at the Dodge Correctional Institute in Waupun and retired from Seneca (former Del Monte Foods) in Markesan. On March 29, 2010, John was united in marriage to Suzanne Beth Horton. John was an avid New York Giants fan and loved spending time next to the campfire in his back yard while enjoying the light display from the stars above in the night sky. John was a member of Duwane “Sonny” Walker American Legion Post 395 in Kingston.

John will be sadly missed and mourned by his wife Suzanne; two sister, Betty Porter and Nancy DeMasi; one niece; several other relatives, friends and his constant canine companion, Hunter.

John was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Eddie.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

The Kratz-Smedema Funeral Home in Cambria is serving the family.
