John A. Turnes, 55, of Brandon, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, December 23, 2023 at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac.
John was born October 20, 1968 in Illinois, the son of Frederick and Betty Huizenga Turnes. John graduated from Campbellsport High School in 1986. After high school he joined the Army Reserves. While in the Army he worked at Rayfo in the Waupun building garbage dumpsters. He then worked at Metalcraft in Mayville for 11 years, later going to MEC, and then worked at RuMar in Mayville as a break operator until the present. John was a handy man of all trades “John of all trades”. On April 28, 2001 he married Jody Groy. John would stop to help anybody anywhere, and would give the shirt off of his own back for them. He loved to go out hunting and fishing with his family and friends. John's favorite quote was “ It will all figure itself out”. John passed his drawing abilities down to his daughter, and just recently his children discovered what a beautiful singing voice he had. He and Jody bought a dream home together in 2022. John’s children were always primary. He always had a good sense of humor, but was always very blunt.
John is survived by his wife of 22 years, Jody Turnes; five children, Shawn (Megan) Turnes, Justin Turnes (Beverly Durkin), Brady Turnes (Emma Brath), EvaJo Turnes (Alex Sobrilsky), and Ryer Turnes, four grandchildren: Isaiah, Harper, Maci, and Addyson Turnes; mother-in-law, Sharon Groy; a sister, April Ebert; two brothers: Craig (Tammy) Turnes and Fred (Kasey) Turnes; two sisters-in-law: Denee (Jeff) Kohlemainen and Sharolyn (Jay) Hofman; his best friend, Dean (Kristen) Brandenburg; and many nieces, nephews, and “adopted” children.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents; and a father-in-law, James Groy.
