Joyce Ann Champine (nee Polzin), age 71, of Beaver Dam, died peacefully on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at Hillside Manor in Beaver Dam.
Joyce was born on July 23, 1938 to Joseph & Catherine (Hussli) Polzin Sr. in Beaver Dam. She graduated from Beaver Dam High School in 1956 and was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish. On October 1, 1973 she was united in marriage to James Champine in Waukesha, Wisconsin. Over the years, Joyce worked as a dental assistant and bookkeeper. She also tended bar at J-J's Place in South Beaver Dam, which she co-owned with her husband Jim. Joyce loved bowling and was a proud member of the Women's Bowling Hall of Fame. She also enjoyed watching soap operas on TV, spending time with her family, going camping, gambling and playing poker machines. Her dog, Tootsie, was very dear to her, and they enjoyed many naps together.
Joyce is survived by her husband, James; her children, Kathy (Tom) Royal of Snellville, GA, Krista (Kevin) Skiba of Fond du Lac, Laurie (Tom) Kennedy, Tony (Terri) Champine, Dan Champine, and Annette (Don) Neuman, all of Beaver Dam; her grandchildren, Austin, Jordin and Carson Royal; Kelly, Katie, Kassidy and Kraig Skiba; Cara (Nate) Dassler; Brooke and Eric Kennedy; Morgan and Rachel Champine; Kari, Megan and Kyle Neuman; her great-granddaughter, Breelyn Dassler; and her special friends, Sara Champine and Lois Finnestad, both of Beaver Dam. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents,a son William Joseph Rheingans in infancy, two brothers, Joseph Jr. and Richard Polzin, her sister, Mary Polzin and other relatives.
A Funeral Service for Joyce will be held on Monday, November 30, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 135 Keller Blvd in Beaver Dam, with Father Jose Gonzalez officiating. Visitation will also be held on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery in Beaver Dam. A luncheon will follow at the Veteran's Center, 500 Beichl Ave. in Beaver Dam.
