Katherine A. Steffen

Katherine Ann Steffen, 52 of Markesan, passed away at home on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.

Katherine was born on April 2, 1973, in Waupun, the daughter of Dean Lloyd and Sharon Amanda (Brotkowski) Sauerbrei. A loving and caring woman, she worked as a resident care worker in elder care, working at various nursing homes and taking pride in caring for residents. She married Travis Steffen at Manchester Rod & Gun Club and together they shared 20 years of marriage. She was an animal lover and enjoyed her many cats and dogs. In her free time, she enjoyed crocheting, reading, and cooking. She also enjoyed music and had many friends in the music scene. She loved visiting with family and playing games together, and especially loved spending time with her dad and her children. 

Katherine is survived by her husband, Travis Steffen; her children, Cody Leahy, Jared (Natalia) Leahy, Callie Leahy, and Justice Steffen; her stepchildren, Gunnar Steffen and Katie Steffen; her step-grandchildren, Mary Warnke and Damian Frederick; her parents, Dean (Laurel) Sauerbrei and Sharon Strahota; her sisters, Amy-Jo (Tim) Rogge and Bobbi-Jo Richter; mother-in-law, Lori Steffen; Godparents, Diane Sauerbrei and Karen Sauerbrei; and further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ervin and Francis Sauerbrei, Ed and Marge Brotkuski; father-in-law-, Dan Steffen; and other relatives.

Visitation for Katherine will take place on Friday, March 6, 2026 at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services in Markesan from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m.  Burial will take place at Markesan Memorial Cemetery.
