Kathleen "Kathy" Ann Laper, age 87 of Markesan, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the Barrett House in Markesan on Monday, October 28, 2024.

Visitation for Kathy will take place on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at Terrace Shores Ev. Free Church, W3278 Co Rd K, Markesan, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Fairwater Cemetery.

Kathy was born in Brandon, Wisconsin on September 4, 1937, the daughter of Herbert and Genevieve (Resheske) Schmuhl. On May 5, 1956, she was united in marriage to her husband Lowell Laper at Zion Lutheran Church in Fairwater. Kathy drove school bus for Laper's Fairwater Garage and the Markesan School District for over 30 years and enjoyed the children "until they got too sassy and smart". A loving and devoted mom, grandma, and great-grandma, Kathy cherished family get-togethers and attending her children and grandchildren's sporting and school events. Around the holidays, she could be found cooking a wonderful meal for her family and adding lots of butter to the mashed potatoes. She liked to travel, both domestically and internationally. In her later years, she became an avid reader, enjoyed working on puzzles and doing embroidery. She loved feeding and watching the birds; especially the hummingbirds, cardinals, and orioles.  She was a member of a card club which Lowell often jokingly referred to as the "Bridge Bags." She also enjoyed doing yard work and attending to her flower and rock gardens. Her greatest love was her family and she will be dearly missed.

Kathy is survived by her two sons, Craig (Sherry) and Mark (Peggy) of Fairwater; daughter, Lori (Rick) Fenner of Oshkosh; grandchildren, Justin (Jenny), Kyle (Rachel), Cody, Paris, Katelyn (Alec), Carson, Chris (Megan), Megan; great-grandchildren, Halley, Bowyn, Joonie, Gavin, Ivynn, Jaxson, Jordy, Raelyn, Fletcher, Buckley, and Charlotte; brother Maurice (Myrna) Schmuhl; sister-in-law Bonita (Arlynn) Sanders; and further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lowell in 2019; sister, Sharon Moore; brother-in-law, Dennis Laper; sister-in-law, Lorraine (Gordon) Born; and other relatives.
