Kathy was born on September 18, 1948, in Beaver Dam, the daughter of Maurice and Rosemary (Henke) Coles and graduated from Beaver Dam High School in 1966. She attended the Universities Stevens Point and Whitewater where she studied history. On July 3, 1971, she was united in marriage to Richard J. Schmitt at Trinity Church – United Methodist. Kathy worked as an office manager with her husband at their American Family Insurance Agency. She treasured the time she spent with her husband, children, grandchildren, family, and friends. Kathy maintained her sharp mind, kindness, grace, love of family and friends, and she expressed gratitude for her long, wonderful life. When she passed, she was surrounded with family, music, and joyful memories.
Kathy enjoyed sewing and creating. She made many quilts for those she loved, and Halloween costumes, and she even last-minute modified prom and bridesmaid dresses for her girls. She loved lunching with her wonderful friends, trying her luck at the casino, traveling, and shopping. Kathy volunteered in the community over the years, most recently delivering Meals on Wheels with her dear lifelong friends. However, her greatest achievement was raising a successful close-knit family who consistently have reflected her kindness, humor, and love. She felt so fortunate to have lived such a full and happy life. She will be remembered for her generous heart.
Kathy is survived by her husband, Richard Schmitt, and children, Jennifer Monthie of Sun Prairie, Trisha (Matt) Anderson, and Cory (Naomi) Schmitt of Beaver Dam; grandchildren Molly Monthie, Madeline Monthie, Morgan Anderson, Allison Anderson, and Colin Anderson; step-grandchildren Jonathon Schultz, Kirra (Andy) Yoder, and Wesley Schultz; step-great-grandchildren Andreus Schultz and Ryker Schultz; brothers Alan (Jayne) Coles and Steven (Brenda) Coles; and further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
