On July 18, 1936, a hot and sweltering day, a son, Kenneth Emil Nitschke was born to Josephine (nee Helbing) and Harold Nitschke in the township of Burnett. On July 4, 2012, on another hot and sweltering day, God called Kenneth home at the age of 75 years.
Kenneth attended grade school at Liberty Bell and graduated from Horicon High School in 1954. September 15, 1956 he married Alice Schultz of Horicon. Together they became the proud parents of Harold R. Nitschke.
Ken farmed all his life on the family farm which became a century farm in 2011. In his early years, Ken also worked at various jobs including John Deere Horicon Works, Hanefeld Bros. Trucking, and area canning companies.
Ken proudly served his community as Supervisor and Town Chairmen for 20 years in Burnett. He also was a past member of the Burnett Fire Department, and also a member of the TT Riders Snowmobile Club. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Burnett where he served as an usher and held various other offices. He enjoyed watching the Brewers, Packers and Nascar racing. He also enjoyed going on gambling trips.
Ken is survived by his loving wife, Alice; son, Harold; and special friend, Tammy Schoenike. He is also survived by one brother, Curtis (Kay) Nitschke; brother in laws, William "Bill" (Kathy) Schultz, Don Peachey, Robert Peterson; and further survived by many loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Ken is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Josephine Nitschke Schwantes, his stepfather, Herbert "Butch" Schwantes, two sisters, Jane Peachey and Audrey Peterson; inlaws, Ruben and Marie Schultz; brother and sister in law, Roger and Betty Hein; stepbrother and sister, Curtis Schwantes and Jenny and Robert Schultz.
A Funeral Service for Ken will be held on Saturday, July 7, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, N8523 Front St., Burnett. Visitation will take place on Friday, July 6, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 135 Keller Blvd., Beaver Dam, and 1 hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Burial will take place at Stone Cemetery south of Burnett with a luncheon to follow back at the church.
