Leon "Manny" W. Zimmerman, age 78 of Beaver Dam, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family, on Sunday, February 24, 2008, after a long battle with cancer.

He was born on December 22, 1929, in Beaver Dam, to Walter and Esther (nee Mussehl) Zimmerman. He married Darlene Sadowski on December 26, 1953 in Beaver Dam. Manny was an employee at Mercury Marine for many years. After retiring, he had more time to enjoy his favorite hobbies, hunting and fishing. Manny and Darlene also loved spending their winters in Texas with their "second" family. He was a member of First Ev. Lutheran Church, in Beaver Dam. Manny touched many people throughout his life, and he will be greatly missed.

Manny is survived by his wife of more than 50 years, Darlene Zimmerman; his children, Jeffrey (Pat) Zimmerman, Fond du Lac; Ericka Clausen, Madison; his grandchildren, Ami (Augie) Lavine, Madison; Deke McGovern, Santa Monica, CA; Danielle (David) Dins, Mount Calvary; Joshua Zimmerman, Fond du Lac; his great-grandchildren, Alesha and Anthony Lavine, Malayna and Brooklyn Dins. Manny is further survived by his brother, John Zimmerman, his sister, Edith Gossink, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Joyce Wimer.

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Cornerstone Funeral and Cremation Services, 135 Keller Blvd, Beaver Dam. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, February 26, from 5 to 7 p.m., and also on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. A luncheon will follow the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will take place at Oakwood Cemetery, Beaver Dam, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Hillside Hospice would be appreciated.

The family would like to thank their neighbors and friends for all the help and support in the past few months. Also, a special thank you to Hillside Hospice Care.
