LeRoy was born on April 6, 1923 in Ripon, the son of Alvin and Stella (Peterson) Weingarten. Following high school, he proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. LeRoy, who received a Purple Heart, served as a paratrooper all over the South Pacific, scouting out Iwo Jima the night before, as well as being there on the day the flag was raised. He was united in marriage to Jane Kitchen. After her passing, he married Darlene Russell, who also preceded him in death. LeRoy worked at John Deere in Horicon for many years. He enjoyed airplanes, gardening, archery, hunting, fishing and spending time with family. He was a member of the John E. Miller American Legion Post 146.
LeRoy is survived by his children, Kay (Doug) Zuehlke of Beaver Dam, Roy (Karen) Weingarten of Rhinelander, Jan (Wayne) Fischbach of Beaver Dam and Vickie Wolff of Randolph; grandchildren, Christopher, Adam, Matthew, Katelyn and Marianne; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Ryan, Drew and one more due in August; and further survived by other relatives and friends.
LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents; his first and second wife; two brothers, Harold and Robert; half-sister, Rowena and other relatives.
