Leroy Vande Slunt

Leroy Vande Slunt, 89, of Waupun, passed away Thursday, October 24, 2024 at home with family by his side.

Leroy VandeSlunt was born on October 24, 1935, to Henry and Leona (Luther) Vande Slunt. He attended Brandon High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957. He married Janet Beyer on August 28, 1959, and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, North Burnett. He lived on a small farm where he raised Arabian horses and was a member of the Dodge County Boots and Saddle Club. Leroy worked for John Deere in Horicon for 30 years, retiring in 1998. Following retirement, he kept busy helping his son and daughter-in-law at Tom Dooley’s Apple Orchard. Leroy enjoyed spending time with his four grandchildren and five great-grandsons, watching the Packers and Badgers, playing Sheepshead, and trail riding. Leroy was an active member of the American Legion Post 210 and its honor guard.  Leroy was a man of strong faith and had a servant heart.

Leroy is survived by two sons: Mike (Sue) Vande Slunt of Waupun and Mark (Deb) Vande Slunt of Oostburg; four grandchildren: Jerica (Chris) Landaal, Javan (Sylvia) Vande Slunt, Reid Vande Slunt, and Brynn (Ben) Peterson; five great-grandsons: Auden, Beckhem, and Dekker Landaal, and Malachi and Killian Vande Slunt; brother-in-law, Alan (Judy) Beyer; and nieces and nephews.

Leroy was preceded in death by his wife, Jan; his parents: siblings: Alice (Jimmy) Gilbertson, Delmar (Martha) Vande Slunt, Erna (Bernard) Voskuil, Hariette (Ed) Westra, Adeline (Marvin) Jahns, Howard (Mert) Vande Slunt, and Margie (Norman) Vandestreek.

Funeral services for Leroy Vande Slunt will be held Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Pella Lutheran Church in Waupun with Rev. David Knuth officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens in the town of Trenton. Friends and relatives may call on the family on Monday at Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun from 4-7 p.m. and on Tuesday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. American Legion Post 210 will provide military rites.
