Obituary

Lester Whitefoot, age 86 of Marquette, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 17, 2017 at home.

Visitation for Lester will be held on Monday, April 24 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Manchester from 6:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 7:00 p.m. Rev. Michael Plagenz will officiate. Private family burial will take place at Sunset Memory Gardens, Madison.

Lester was born on March 28, 1931 in Columbus, the son of Lester and Marie (Westbye) Whitefoot. He was baptized on May 9, 1931 and confirmed on June 17, 1945. He graduated from East High School in Madison on June 17, 1949. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from January 4, 1951 through November 6, 1954. He was united in marriage to Wilma Oschmann on November 12, 1955 in Jefferson.

After serving his country, Lester continued in government service for 37 years with the U.S. Department of Agriculture at the University of Wisconsin in bee research. He retired in 1986 and moved to Lake Puckaway. Lester served for many years on the Board of Commissioners for Lake Puckaway Protection & Rehabilitation. His hobbies included bowling, hunting and fishing. Lester was an active member of St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church in Manchester.

Lester is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Wilma Whitefoot; three children, Ralph (Donna) of Mauston, Timothy (Hope) of Briggsville, Gretchen (Rev. Timothy) Soukup of Milwaukee; two sisters, Arline Hoenecke and Sharon (Bob) McDowell; 10 grandchildren, Artie Boberg, Dawn (Sam) Talbert, Randy Boberg, Amber (Ben) Smith, Christopher (Joy) Boberg, Kelsey (Enrique) Montoya, Shelly Whitefoot, Mitchell Soukup, Eric Whitefoot, Alex Whitefoot; nine great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Lester's name may be directed to Home Health United Hospice.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Home Health United Hospice for the loving care and out of the way kindness that was given to Lester and our family, and also to the faithful shepherding from Rev. Michael Plagenz. To God be the Glory!
