Lila Mae Schwandt, age 89 of Markesan, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 14, 2013 at Autumn Bay Assisted Living in Ripon.

Lila was born on February 17, 1924 in Berlin to Edward and Martha (nee Brown) Swanke. She attended St. John's Lutheran School in Berlin and Berlin High School. On August 3, 1947 she was united in marriage to Gordon Schwandt at St. John's Lutheran Church in Berlin. She worked at local businesses around Markesan throughout her life. Lila loved baking, traveling, cooking, sewing, playing bingo and listening to country music. She was a very devoted and active member of Faith Lutheran Church in Markesan and also served on the Ladies Aid. Lila cherished spending time with her family and friends.

Lila is survived by her daughter Connie (Mike) Washkoviak of Green Lake; grandchildren, Stephanie (John) Fox, Angela (Ben) Buelow, Lindsey Washkoviak, Jessica (Luke) Kvapil; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Katelyn, Colin, Keagan, McKayla; her siblings, Dolores Manthey of Franklin, Joyce (Phil) Monahan of Beaver Dam and Floyd (Joanne) Swanke of West Bend. She is further survived by her sisters-in-law, Evelyn Schwandt of Markesan, Adeline Schwandt of Phoenix, AZ, along with nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Lila is preceded in death by her parents, husband Gordon on May 5, 1990, a son Gary on February 14, 2007, her siblings Beatrice Beck, Rueben, Vernon, Foster and Palmer Swanke, along with other relatives.

A Funeral Service for Lila will on Thursday, April 18, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, N1521 Hwy. 73,Markesan with Rev. Paul Krause officiating. Visitation will also be on Thursday at the Church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Markesan Memorial Cemetery in Markesan. Memorials may be directed to Faith Lutheran Church and School.
