Lloyd was born May 25, 1934 to Ray and Ruth Lundeen, and was an older brother to JoAnn. He grew up with a passion for agriculture, aspiring to follow in his father's footsteps and take over the family farm. This was not in his cards, as asthma and allergies plagued him during the hot Wisconsin summers and forced him to abandon his childhood dreams. Instead he served three years in the United States Army before turning his focus and life direction to his second love, and the true love of his father.

The mountains, the woods, and the wilds within them became Lloyd's passion. He pursued an education in forestry first at UW Stevens Point and then moved out West ultimately receiving his Bachelor's degree in forestry from the University of Montana in Missoula. He began what would become a thirty-five year career with the U.S. Forest Service managing America's forests and rivers. He continued his education to earn a Masters in forest hydrology from the University of Minnesota and finally a PhD in hydrological engineering from Stanford University in California. At the height of his career, Lloyd was Manager of the National Wild and Scenic Rivers program for the U.S. Forest Service.

The educational and careers goals that Lloyd achieved might have been enough for most but he managed a substantial personal life as well. In 1961, he met a young social worker named Patricia "Pat" Anderson, whom he described as "a lovely college coed", and they were married in the fall of 1965. Together always for almost fifty years, they embarked on many adventures as "husband and wife, lovers, caregivers, best friends, and soul mates." Forest Service life took them from Montana to Utah to California where their two sons, Chris and Brian were born. After five years in Colorado, they moved to Washington D.C. where Lloyd spent 17 years teaching his sons his love for nature and the importance of education.

In 1998, Lloyd and Pat retired to a house built by Lloyd's grandfather in Manchester, Wisconsin just up the hill from the family farm where he grew up. Lloyd spent his later years traveling, gardening with Pat, visiting his sons in Alaska, delivering meals to seniors in the area, helping to develop and manage the Manchester Activity Center, and most importantly to him, being an active member of Faith Lutheran Church. He walked almost every morning down along the bank of the Grand River watching and contemplating.

Lloyd never stopped seeking out adventure. He celebrated his 70th birthday climbing Mt. Rainier with his sons and his 75th birthday with Pat and Brian hiking the Chilkoot Trail in the Klondike.

He is survived by wife Pat, sons Chris and Brian, his sister JoAnn Sanders, nieces Wendy King, Wanda Halley, Sue Laybourn, Jessica Barnett, Catlin Bickerstaff, and nephew, Lucas Anderson and their families.
