IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lola Fae
Coleman
September 26, 1929 – January 13, 2021
Fae Coleman was born Lola Fae Adkins in Puritan Mines, West Virginia on September 26, 1929 to Savage and Pearl Adkins. She was the 4th of 6 children. She grew up on a farm outside of Delbarton, West Virginia during the Great Depression playing in Pigeon Creek, chasing chickens and picking blackberries. Fae graduated from Burch High School in 1947 and worked at the local drug store where she met the love of her life Bill Coleman. Bill and Fae courted and were married on June 24, 1949. They started a family almost immediately. They lived briefly in Delbarton, then moved to Coalwood, West Virginia, then to Euclid, Ohio where Bill started work at Precision Metalsmiths, and finally to Markesan, Wisconsin. Wherever they lived, Fae built a home full of love for her family.
Fae was a great cook and when she cooked, she always made a little extra, just in case someone stopped by. She enjoyed gardening and didn't mind getting dirty and creating new things with her children. She encouraged creativity in her children and grandchildren. There were always flowers in her yard and in her kitchen windows. She volunteered and taught Bluebirds and Girl Scouts while her daughters were young. She attended every ball game, play, and band concert her children participated in.
While in Markesan, Fae played Bridge once a week and participated in IOOF. She loved playing solitaire and watching mysteries like Murder She Wrote, Ellery Queen, and Matlock. She was always in the mood for a rousing game of Chinese Checkers with whomever was home and would sit a spell.
Fae often went camping and canoeing with her family and friends in Door County and along the Wisconsin River. She and Bill traveled often to see family and friends, making annual trips back to West Virginia, along with several trips to Myrtle Beach, Florida, Nevada, California, and even Alaska.
Family was always Fae's first priority. Whether it was herding them to safety during a late night thunderstorm, staying up late with a sick child, or waiting up for a wayward teenager who came home late, Fae was always there and she was a fierce protector. This love and protectiveness also included her grandchildren, for whom she would do anything, including quitting smoking. Though quiet and modest in manner, Fae was strong and steadfast in the things that mattered most. Fae passed away on January 13, 2021
