Loren W. Gaastra, age 62 of Markesan, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 15, 2019 at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX.

Visitation for Loren will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 45 St. Joseph St., Markesan from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Mark Miller as Celebrant. Private inurnment at Mackford Union Cemetery, town of Mackford, will take place at a later date.

Loren was born on September 23, 1956 in the town of Beaver Dam to Samuel and Joan (Kordes) Gaastra. As a young boy, he began working for the family business which he loved, Sam Gaastra & Sons, and he eventually became co-owner. A member of the Mackford Town Board and the Markesan Sno-Drifters, Loren enjoyed attending gun shows and spending time on the many area lakes, especially Fox Lake. A classic car admirer, his all-time favorite was the 1974 Corvette.

Loren is survived by his mother, Joan Gaastra of Markesan; his sisters, Judy (Rick) Feldt of Naples, FL and Susan Gaastra of Waupaca; his brother, Jeff Gaastra of Ripon; nephews, Nick (Patricia) Feldt, Mike Feldt, and Hunter Gaastra; great-nephew, Boe Gaastra; and close friends, Tim Neuman, Steve Anderson and Lee Sixt. He is further survived by other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Sam and other relatives.
