Louise Powell

July 5, 1942 — April 29, 2026

Louise Powell passed away peacefully on April 29, 2026, after a difficult battle with cancer, with her devoted husband, Dan, by her side.

Born on July 5, 1942 in Waupun, Wisconsin, to Lois and Leo Brewer, Louise lived a life defined by love, service, friendship, and compassion. She met the love of her life, Dan Powell, when they were in sixth grade, and shared friendship rings in seventh grade. Their young romance in high school quickly blossomed into a lifelong partnership, and they were married in 1962, sharing sixty-four years of devotion, laughter, and cherished memories together.

Louise was a professor of early childhood development at Central Arizona College and served as director of the Learning Center for Young Children. She retired in 2001 after a dedicated career in education and child development. She was a caring and dedicated teacher of young children, touching countless lives with her patience, warmth, and gentle encouragement. She carried that same nurturing spirit into every part of her life, always making others feel welcome and valued.

An active and beloved member of the Ahwatukee Recreation Center community, Louise embraced life with enthusiasm and joy. She participated in the Entertainers group, performing in plays and singing with the choir that visited senior centers to bring music and happiness to others. She also enjoyed being part of the pickle ball club, participating in fitness classes, and volunteering with the Support the Troops group. Louise was passionate about supporting charities such as Wounded Warriors and Danny Thomas' St. Jude Children's research Hospital. Louise gave back to her community whenever she could.

Louise will be remembered for her warm heart, generous spirit, and unwavering kindness. Her courage throughout her illness reflected the same grace and strength that guided her entire life.

She is survived by her loving husband Dan; her son Michael; her four grandchildren, Scott, John, Ashley, and stepgranddaughter Beth; great-grandson Aiden; brother Greg Brewer (Diane); brother-in-law Curt Powell (Diana), who will continue to carry her love and memory in their hearts.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lois and Leo Brewer, her beloved son, David, her brother Dean, brother-in-law Alden Powell and sister-in-law Mary Powell.

Though deeply missed, Louise's legacy of love, compassion, and joyful service to others will live on in all who knew and loved her.

A Celebration of Louise's Life will be held at the Ahwatukee Recreation Center on October 18, 2026.
