Obituary

Lowell D. Laper, age 85 of Fairwater, passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at Markesan Resident Home.

Visitation for Lowell will be held on Tuesday, December 10 at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 181 S. Main St., Markesan from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Visitation will also be held on Wednesday, December 11 at Zion Lutheran Church, 100 Church St., Fairwater from 9:30 a.m until the time of the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Gary Zacharias officiating. Burial will take place at Fairwater Cemetery.

Lowell was born on January 21, 1934 in Fairwater, Wisconsin, the son of Alex A. and Elda L. (Fenske) Laper. He was also a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church in Fairwater, where he was baptized, confirmed, and later married. He attended Fairwater State Graded School, Brandon High School, Ripon College, and the U.S. Army Finance School. Lowell proudly served his country as a Finance and Accounting Officer at the New Orleans Army Terminal. On May 5, 1956 he was united in marriage to Kathleen A. Schmuhl. He proudly owned and operated the Fairwater Garage, Inc since 1957, was a Chevrolet dealer, and also provided school bus transportation for the Green Lake, Markesan, and Rosendale-Brandon School Districts.

Giving back to his community was important to Lowell; he served on the Fairwater Village Board, the fire department, as a charter member of the Lions Club, the Fond du Lac County Airport Zoning Board of Appeals, and was on the Board of Directors for Markesan Resident Home for 14 years. He loved his wonderful wife and family, and especially enjoyed watching his sons, daughter, and grandchildren excel in sports. An avid Green Bay Packer fan, he was a season ticket holder for over 50 years.

Lowell is survived by his wife, Kathy of Ripon; two sons, Craig (Sherry) and Mark (Peggy) of Fairwater; daughter, Lori (Rick) Fenner of Oshkosh; grandchildren, Justin, Kyle, Cody, Paris, Katelyn, Carson, Chris, and Megan; great-grandchildren, Halley, Bowyn, Joonie, Gavin, Ivyn, Jaxson, Jordy, and Raelyn; brother, Dennis of CA; sister, Bonita (Arlynn) Sanders of Ripon; and further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Lorraine (Gordon) Born, and other relatives.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Markesan Resident Home, Anna's House and Agnesian Hospice Hope, as well as to Rev. Gary Zacharias, and especially to an earlier companion and friend, Lloyd Weisnicht.

Lowell's family was the most important thing to him; the family values he instilled will forever be treasured, and he will be missed greatly.
