Lyle Ahrens, 93, of Waupun, died Thursday, May 3, 2012 at the Christian Home and Rehabilitation Center in Waupun.



Lyle was born June 13, 1918 in Waupun, the son of Chris and Tina Hiller Ahrens. Lyle attended Waupun schools, graduating from Waupun High School in 1936. Lyle worked at Teeple Shoe Company until he entered the U.S. Army in 1941, and served in World War II in Northern Ireland, England, and France. While returning to the states in 1945, he spent a year in Fox Lake and then moved back to Waupun where he was employed at the Wisconsin State Prison and later transferred to Central State Hospital where he worked until retiring in 1980. On April 27, 1974 he married Katey Clough in Waupun. He and Katey enjoyed doing volunteer work with Meals on Wheels at Waupun Memorial Hospital and helping out at Marsh Haven Nature Center. Lyle was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waupun where he sang in the church choir for 64 years. He was also a member of the American Association of Retired Persons. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed traveling.

Lyle is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Lyle was preceded in death by his wife, Katey and two sisters.

The family wishes to thank the staff at the Christian Home for the wonderful care given to Lyle over the years.

Services:
Funeral services for Lyle Ahrens will be held Monday, May 7, 2012 at 4 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waupun with Rev. Rolf Amundsen and Rev. Elizabeth Lee officiating.

Burial:
Burial will follow at Forest Mound Cemetery in Waupun. American Legion Post 210 will provide military honors at the cemetery.

Visitation:
Friends and relatives of Lyle Ahrens may call on the family on Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church from 3 p.m. until the time of service.

Memorials may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
