Obituary

Lyle S. Samuelson, age 69 of Markesan, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 17, 2017.

A memorial gathering for Lyle will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at Markesan Bible Church, 60 N Margaret St, Markesan, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 1:00 p.m with Pastor Levi Snyder. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King, WI.

Lyle was born on May 14, 1948 in Iowa, the son of Raymond and Ramona (Johansen) Samuelson. As a boy, Lyle fished on Storm Lake in Iowa, the beginning of a lifelong enthusiasm. As a young man he learned the craft of masonry from his father. Lyle became a journeyman and was recognized by his peers for timely becoming a master of the craft. He then became a teacher, passing his masonry skill and knowledge to the next generation, including to his two sons. In early adulthood, Lyle honorably served his country as a heavy equipment operator for the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. After his service, Lyle explored the beaches of Southern California, learned to surf, and took a bride, Diana. Soon they had two sons who would grow to know their dad loved them very much. Lyle lived most of his life in the Midwest-Great Lakes region, residing in small towns and cities alike, all the while using his masonry skills to build important and long lasting structures such as schools and libraries. He then spent his retirement years in Markesan where he made friends who came to regard him as a generous, interesting, fun-loving, and storytelling dude. The abundant fishing opportunities in the area were a treat for Lyle's lifelong passion for fishing. He loved taking youngsters out to fish, passing along his lifetime of angling knowledge, again becoming a teacher. Not only did he find fishing in the Markesan area, but also fellowship in his faith at Markesan Bible Church.

Lyle is survived by the love of his life, Virginia Lohry of Ripon and his honorary grandson Nathaniel; children John (Faye) Samuelson of Markesan and William Samuelson of Oregon; 7 brothers and sisters; and further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and other relatives.
