Margene Guenther

Margene M. Guenther, 92, of Waupun, passed away Friday, May 10, 2024 at Waupun Memorial Hospital.

Margene was born November 27, 1931 in Fond du Lac the daughter of Floyd and Verna Irwin Towne. In 1949 she graduated from Waupun High School. Following graduation she was employed at the National Bank of Waupun for 10 years. On June 25, 1955 she married Robert Rather in Waupun. The couple resided in Waupun all their married lives. Robert passed away in 1974. Margene was employed with the Waupun School District in its business departments in 1969 and retired in 1977. On June 17, 1977 she married Bert Guenther in Waupun. They resided in Waupun until 1989 and then moved to Lakeland, FL where they resided until 2011, and then moved back to Waupun. Margene was a member of D.A.R. (Daughters of the American Revolution). She was a member of the Eastern Star and Union-Congregational Church in Waupun. While living in Lakeland, Bert and Margene were members of First Presbyterian Church.

Margene is survived by her daughter, Linda J. Rather of Ripon; daughter-in-law, Felicia Rather of Columbus, OH; step-children: Robert (Sandie) Guenther of Colorado Springs, CO and Randy (Jill) Guenther of Waupun; a sister, Carol J. Hennarichs of West Bend, WI; two grandchildren: Isabelle and Derek Rather; seven step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; and a step-great-great-grandchild.

Margene was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Rather in 1974, husband, Bert Guenther in 2020; son, James D. Rather; a sister, Joyce Verette; a brother at birth, Erwin Towne; a step-son, Bryan “Chick” Guenther; and a step-grandson, Rick Guenther.

Funeral services for Margene Guenther will be held Saturday, June 15, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun. Burial will follow at Cattaraugus Cemetery in the town of Waupun. Friends and relatives may call on the family at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
