Click HERE to view Marianne's Life Tribute Video.Marianne Fennema, age 90 of Beaver Dam, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 31, 2011 at Prairie Ridge in Beaver Dam. Marianne Spinn was born on July 6, 1921 in Bernburg, Germany and came to America in 1926 when she was 5 years old. She always lived life to the fullest and was on the go until she couldn't any longer.
Marianne worked as a commercial seamstress, operator of a tavern (more than once) and for Dodge County for 21 years as their baker and later as a cook where she became well known for her recipes. She loved to travel and see new places. She was fortunate enough to go to Puerto Rico, Hawaii, Caribbean islands, Hong Kong and other parts of China, Germany (several times), Las Vegas, San Francisco and Colorado.
Marianne has been a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for over 50 years, member of the Red Hatters, Dodge County Homemakers and St. Stephen's United Church of Christ in Juneau. She also enjoyed volunteering at Clearview in Juneau for many years helping the residents play bingo. Marianne loved to garden, her two Chihuahuas and loved to feed the birds. Her family would gather together every year to celebrate her birthday. " To sum up her life of 90 years into three words would be; fiesty, fun loving and caring."
Marianne is survived by a son Robert F.(Kaye) Eckert of Rome, WI; a daughter Nancy A. (Larry) Toll of Beaver Dam; her grandchildren, Julie Eckert, Lynn (Scott) Cira, Michael (Laura) Eckert, Andrew (Kristin) Eckert, Ken Bork (husband of deceased Amy TollBork), Angela Fredrickson, Valerie (Jason) LaTendresse, Daniel (Dawn) Toll, Michael Toll; her great-grandchildren, Cassandra Jones, Tahra, Elise and Nadia Eckert, Ethan and Ryan Eckert, Gabrielle Fredrickson, Danny, Andy and Delainey Toll; nieces and nephews, William (Terry) Mengele, Sherry Reyes, Karen (Jim) Barrix, Fritz D. Spinn, Kathy (Tom) Skasa, Paul (Luann) Spinn and her two special friends of many years, Nancy Pauline Prusinski and Agnes Miller.
Marianne was preceded in death by her parents, husbands; Martin Eckert, Grant Miswald, Norman Schwensow, Harold Maas, Willis Fennema; a son Martin Joseph Eckert; a sister, Margaret Mengele; a brother Fritz Spinn; a nephew, James Spinn; granddaughter Amy TollBork and a great grandson, Gavin Eckert.
A Funeral Service for Marianne will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at 3:00p.m. at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Service, 135 Keller Blvd. in Beaver Dam. A luncheon will immediately follow the service. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday, from 1:00p.m. until the time of Service at 3:00p.m. Burial will take place at Juneau City Cemetery.
