Marlene A. Braaksma, age 74, of Beaver Dam and formerly of Fox Lake, died peacefully on Monday, February 1, 2010 at Beaver Dam Community Hospital.
Marlene was born on March 28, 1935 in Beaver Dam to Edward and Dorothy (nee Deglow) Winter. She graduated from Lake Mills High School and was married to her first husband, Emil Mundt, in June 1953. Emil preceded her in death in 1961. In March 1963, she was united in marriage to Richard "Dick" Braaksma. She was an LPN at Bethesda Lutheran Communities and Clearview Longterm Care, and she also worked at Koplin's in Fox Lake. Marlene was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam. She enjoyed bowling, spending time with her best friend, traveling, camping at her year-round campsite, shopping and going to parades. She treasured all of the time she spent with her family.
Marlene is survived by her daughter, Debra (Larry) Nelson of Beaver Dam; her step-daughter-in-laws, Marcia Mickelson and Marilyn Mundt, both of Black Earth; her grandchildren, Travis (Dawn) and Laura Nelson, both of Beaver Dam; her great-grandchildren, Richard, Susan and Rylee Nelson; and her brother, Delmar (Erma) Winter of Juneau. Marlene is further survived by numerous step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her first and second husbands, three step-sons, two brothers and other relatives.
A Funeral Service for Marlene will be held on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, 400 Hillcrest Drive in Beaver Dam with Rev. Mark Wenzel officiating. A visitation will also be held on Wednesday at the church from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. A luncheon will immediately follow the service at the church, and burial will take place at Highland Memory Gardens in the Town of Trenton.
