Obituary

Marlin Peter Spindler, age 89 of Beaver Dam, passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at Hospice Home of Hope in Fond du Lac.

Visitation for Marlin will take place on Monday, March 3, 2025 at First Ev. Lutheran Church, 311 W. Mackie St., Beaver Dam, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. Inurnment will take place at Highland Memory Gardens, town of Trenton, at a later date.

Marlin was born on June 4, 1935, the son of Herman and Eleanor Spindler. Marlin graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School in 1953. He attended UW-Eau Claire for two years, where he participated in football and baseball, earning his Bachelor of Science degree from UW-Stout in 1960. He later obtained a Master of Science in Industrial Education in 1970. Marlin dedicated 33 years of his career to teaching Industrial Education and Technology Education at Beaver Dam Junior High School. Additionally, he taught behind-the-wheel Driver's Education for 20 summers and was passionate about Hunter Safety Education, educating over 5,000 students in the Dodge County area during his 43 years of instruction.

Marlin proudly served in the U.S. Army and USAR for nine years, attaining the rank of SFC in the 84th Division. He was also an active member of his community, serving as a WIAA basketball and football referee for over 15 years. A devoted member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, he served as an usher, communion assistant, and youth confirmation mentor.

Marlin is survived by his wife, Jean; his daughter, Shelly (James) Skorik of Cedar Grove; and stepchildren, Donna MacLafferty of Indianapolis, Sharon (James) Sesing of Elkhorn, Connie (James Brown) Jacobson of Wisconsin Rapids, and David Jacobson of Beaver Dam; his brother, Alvin (Kay) Spindler of Brooklyn Park, MN; and son-in-law, Robin (Sue) Monette of Beaver Dam; grandchildren, Megan (Ryan) Draeger of Berlin, WI; Breanne (Kevin) Sambs of Sandwich, IL; Ciara (Brandon) Paitrick of Beaver Dam; Savanah Monette of Beaver Dam; and Sarah, Andrew, and Jack Skorik of Cedar Grove; step-grandchildren,  Michael MacLafferty of Germany, Erika Sesing of LaCrosse, Natalie Sesing of Milwaukee, and Lessa Sesing of Madison. He is further survived by ten great-grandchildren, as well as many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Wendy Monette; his son, Michael Spindler; his brothers, Donald and Allen Spindler; his step-grandson, Brian MacLafferty; sister-in-law, Gloria Spindler; and other relatives.

If desired, memorials in Marlin's name may be made to the Beaver Dam Scholarship Foundation or First Ev. Lutheran Church.
