Mervin K. Schafer, age 80 of Beaver Dam, passed away on Monday, July 24, 2023 at Randolph Health Services.

A memorial gathering for Mervin will take place on Monday, July 31, 2023 at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 135 Keller Blvd., Beaver Dam from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 5:00 p.m. with Chaplain Dennis Richards officiating.

Mervin was born in Columbus on January 26, 1943, the son of Ervin and Doris (Godfrey) Schafer. He was a 1961 graduate of Fall River High School. On April 8, 1967, he was united in marriage to his wife, Nancy McCormick in Beaver Dam. He spent most of his life farming but also worked for Stokely Canning Company for a period of time. Mervin could often be found riding his Gator checking on the farm and crops or repairing and working on equipment. When he wasn't farming Mervin enjoyed listening to Polka music, reading, and watching the History channel.

Mervin is survived by his wife, Nancy Schafer; children, Cindy (Mike) DeVries of Waupun, Jenny (Denis) Fuerstenberg of Beaver Dam, Timothy Schafer of Beaver Dam, Holly (Cliff Linde) Schafer of Beaver Dam, and Andy (Lynn) Schafer of Beaver Dam; 6 grandchildren, Amanda (Jeffrey) Dekam, Ryan DeVries, Matthew Fuerstenberg, Morgan Fuerstenberg, Carson Schafer, and Grace Schafer; sisters-in-law, Betty (James) Kreuziger of Beaver Dam, Gail McCormick of Sturgeon Bay, Mary (Wayne Propst) White of Beaver Dam, Kathy (Tom) Nickel of Middleton; brothers-in-law, Bill McCormick of Oklahoma, Dennis (Jane) McCormick of Beaver Dam, Mike (Carol) McCormick of Beaver Dam; and further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Dolores Pahl, Julia Schraufnagel; brother, Sheldon Schafer; and other relatives.
