Michael Werner

Michael D. Werner, age 80, of Key West, FL died Sunday April 14, 2024. Mike was formerly a long-time resident of Waupun, WI.

Mike was born on January 12, 1944, the son of Francis and Phyllis (Graham) Werner in New London, WI. Mike attended New London High School for two years and then two years at Judson Academy in Scottsdale, AZ. He then graduated from Parsons University, served in the National Guard in the late 1960’s, and then graduated from mortuary school in Wisconsin where he received his mortuary license. Mike married Judy Oldenburg on December 28th, 1968 and they had two children. He purchased Beyers Funeral Home in 1969 which is now known as Werner Harmsen. Mike owned and operated Werner Harmsen Furniture Store and Werner Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun, WI until he retired in 2017, and was honored for 50 years of practice as a funeral director. He was also a director of the National Bank of Waupun for 43 years, retiring from the board in 2016. Mike was instrumental in shaping the economic landscaping of Waupun by growing and diversifying his business interests within the community for which he was recognized by the mayor of Waupun in 2022. For the last 30 years Mike considered Key West his second home.

Mike is survived by his partner of 38 years, John Penkoske; one son, Judson Werner of Waupun, WI and one daughter, Ryan (Kevin) Bille of Eden Prairie, MN; his grandchildren: Landon and Delilah Werner, and Maci, Corbynn, and Quinn Bille. He is also survived by two brothers: Graham (Barbara) Werner and Jennings (Glen) Werner; one sister, Beth Bax; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Memorial services for Michael D. Werner will be held Saturday, April 20th, 2024 at Peace Covenant Presbyterian Church in Key West, FL with a future celebration of life to be held at Werner Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun later this summer.
