Obituary

Milton Neuman, 96 years and 9 months, passed away March 14, 2022 in his apartment at the Markesan Resident Home-North Terrace.

Visitation for Milton will take place on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, W3377 Main St., Manchester from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Michael Plagenz officiating. Burial will follow at Manchester Cemetery.

He was born June 9th, 1925 at the family farm in Marquette township to William and Lillian (Dickman) Neuman and baptized at the farm July 12, 1925. He attended Dantz Tavern School. He was confirmed April 2, 1939 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Manchester where he was a lifelong member serving as an usher, member of the church council and playing in the Dartball League. He married Maxine Mildebrandt on May 28, 1950 at St Paul's Lutheran Church. They enjoyed 68 wonderful years together. Milton and Maxine farmed in Green Lake Township on Spring Lake Farm. In 1959, Milton's left arm was caught in a hay baler. He regained use of his arm and has lived a full life. Milton loved to drive, either one of his Allis Chalmers tractors or his car. Just last fall, he drove his tractor around the farm one final time. In recent years, he enjoyed many rides with his children. He and Maxine knew the back roads around the Portage and Baraboo area well. During their lifetime, they visited almost every state, as well as Canada. He enjoyed building wooden shelves, picture frames and small remodeling projects. Milton enjoyed singing and was a member of the Harmony Kings. Staff and residents will remember him singing as he walked the halls at the Resident Home-North Terrace. Volunteering at the Markesan Historical Society Museum was a retirement activity he enjoyed along with serving on the Markesan Historical Society Board. COVID has been hard for Milton because he enjoyed people and sharing stories about his life. If you knew Milton, you know he never expected to be on this earth 96 plus years. Dad, you finally were right.

Milton is survived by his daughter, Diane (Lee) Ladwig of Fond du Lac; sons, Wayne (Marlene) Neuman of Markesan, Allan (Dawn) Neuman of Wisconsin Rapids, and Darrell "Buzz" (Vicky) Neuman of Ripon; 10 grandchildren, Joanne (Angelo) Viard, Julie (David) Hanson, Jason (Val) Ladwig, Jeff (Abbey) Ladwig, Stephanie (Bret) Lichtenwald, Pastor Steve (Sarah) Neuman, Scott (Jamie) Neuman, Caitlin (Josh Fangman) Neuman, Jaime (Will) Martin and Eric Neuman; and 22 great-grandchildren, Sebastian, Evan and Jayden Viard, Alice, Walter, Conrad and Preston Hanson; Sage and Aspen Ladwig; Lily and Archer Ladwig; Levi and Trey Lichtenwald; Mathias, Oliver, Kingston, Talia and Carter Neuman; Axel, Gus, Hazel and Skylar Martin. He is also survived by nephews, Dennis "Farmer" Grahn, Rick "Winder" (Mel) Grahn, Gale (Renae) Grahn and their families; cousins, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife on July 22, 2018, his parents; an infant brother; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Beatrice and Alden Grahn; and many cousins and friends.
