Nanno Hiemstra, 95, of Waupun, passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at The Christian Home and Rehabilitation Center in Waupun.




Nanno was born November 30, 1919 in Avon, South Dakota, the son of David & Gertrude (Namminga) Hiemstra. On January 30, 1942 he married Alice Coehoorn in Clinton, WI. Shortly after their marriage Nanno was drafted into Patton’s 3rd Army, 345th Infantry, 90th Division during WWII. Following WWII Nanno & Alice started the family farm in Sharon, WI where they farmed for 21 years and then moved the family farm to Brandon in 1969. Nanno was a member of Bethel Reformed Church in Brandon where he was a Sunday school teacher and served as Elder and Deacon.

Nanno is survived by: Alice, his wife of 73 years; six sons: Alvin (Carol) Hiemstra of Beaver Dam, Wayne (Elaine) Hiemstra of Brandon, Les (Shelly) Hiemstra of Brandon, Robert (fiancée Karen DeBoer) Hiemstra of Brandon, Lennis (Kay) Hiemstra of Ripon, Arlin (Denise) Hiemstra of Brandon; three daughters: Lorraine (Milt) Papke of Winneconne, Karen (Jerry) Eisenga of Randolph, Debbie (special friend David Deaver) Hiemstra of Eldorado; 30 grandchildren: 44 great-grandchildren, 2 step- grand-children plus nine step-great-grandchildren, plus one step great, great grandchild. Two sister-in-laws: Lucille Hiemstra of Springfield, South Dakota; Elma Hiemstra of Orange City, Iowa; and several sister in-laws and brothers-in-law plus many nieces and nephews.

Nanno was preceded in death by: His parents: David & Gertrude (Namminga) Hiemstra; a Son in-law: Gordon Venema; two grandchildren: Robin Hiemstra and Justin Eisenga; eight brothers: Jacob, Hiskis, Jacob, Hezekiah (Zeke), Charles, his twin brother, Lolke (Lawrence), David and Jake; three sisters: Edith Hiemstra; Grace Kuiper; Gertrude Coehoorn and several brother and sister in-laws.





Visitation:


Friends and relatives may call on the family on Friday at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun from 4-7 p.m. and on Saturday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.



Services:


Funeral services for Nanno Hiemstra will be held Saturday, May 23, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Bethel Reformed Church in Brandon with Rev. John Tilstra officiating.



Burial:


Burial will follow at Brandon Cemetery where military rites will be provided by American Legion Post 210 of Waupun.
