Paul Bruins, 70, of rural Markesan, passed away on December 28, 2023.
Paul was born March 18, 1953, in Waupun, the son of Glenn and Betty Vande Zande Bruins. He graduated from Waupun High School in 1971. Paul continued his studies at UW-Madison and received a bachelor’s degree in Construction Administration. He then did construction work in Madison before returning to Waupun to work on the family farm and do construction work in the area. He was very proud of the houses he built around Green Lake and enjoyed the opportunity that location provided for lunchtime swims. During that time he married the love of his life, Debbie Primuth, on September 13, 1980, in Kenosha, WI. The couple moved into a home that Paul built. In 1985, he built another home – the one they lived in to this day. Paul worked as a city carrier for the Waupun Post Office for 25 years and retired in 2011. He coached all three of his sons in Waupun Little League. His hobbies included farming in Markesan, building furniture, and helping his children with home remodeling projects; watching his grandchildren was always the highlight of his week. Paul was an avid Badgers and Packers fan. He was a member of Alto Reformed Church where he served several terms as an Elder and a Deacon, taught Wednesday-night Bible Class for 16 years, co-chaired a search committee, and volunteered with the Acts 2 Crew.
Paul is survived by his wife of 43 years, Debbie; three sons: Benjamin (Sarah) Bruins, Dan (Ashley) Bruins, and Peter Bruins (Susan Endres); five grandchildren: Jonah, Asher, Esther, Trey, and Laney; mother, Betty Bruins; siblings: Doug (Paula) Bruins, Sue (Jim) Shulfer, and Lisa (Herb) Semrow; mother-in-law, Donna Primuth; brother-in-law, David Primuth (James Ueda); and nieces and nephews.
Paul was preceded in death by his father, Glenn; and father-in-law, Roy Primuth.
Funeral services for Paul Bruins will be held Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at 6 p.m. at Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun with Pastor Benjamin Bruins officiating. Friends and relatives may call on the family on Tuesday at the funeral home from 4-6 p.m.
