Paul Eugene Ebert departed from this world on January 23, 2025, surrounded by members of his loving family to join those already in Heaven.

Paul was born October 3, 1935, in Waupun, WI, the youngest son of three children of William and Angeline (Konings) Ebert. Paul grew up in Waupun and graduated from Waupun High School in 1953. While in Waupun he met his soulmate, Florence Ebert. He and Florence were married on July 1, 1955 in Las Cruces, New Mexico where Paul was serving with the US Army. Paul and Florence moved back to Wisconsin and spent time in Stevens Point and New London before finally landing in their Rhinelander home in 1963. In 2013, they moved back to Waupun to be closer to family and get back to their roots. Paul made a final move to Middleton in 2021 so his kids could care for him and visit more frequently.

Paul graduated from UW-Stevens Point with a bachelor’s degree in biology, followed by a master’s degree from Michigan State University. His true calling, both professionally and personally, was teaching. He spent his life inspiring young minds, instilling in them a deep love of biology and the natural world—lessons he passed down to his children and grandchildren.

Paul and Florence shared 66 years of marriage. Together, they raised three wonderful children in Rhinelander, where they spent over 50 years. During that time, they were blessed with two granddaughters and two great-granddaughters.

The beautiful landscape of the Northwoods gave him ample opportunity to pursue his passion for hunting and fishing. Fall weekends were spent grouse and rabbit hunting, in late October, pheasant hunting and in November, deer hunting. He was also an avid fisherman, often spending days and evenings on the water (and ice) angling for the perfect catch. When not outdoors, Paul nurtured his creativity—journaling, painting, and constructing projects around his home.

After retirement, Paul and Florence embraced the joy of being “snowbirds,” spending many winters in Panama City Beach, Florida. They cherished the warmth, sunshine, and beach, and especially the friendships they formed with fellow snowbirds from the northern states and Canada. On any given day, one could find Paul on the beach, fishing poles in hand, searching for the elusive pompano, redfish or bluefish. He was always eager to share his bounty with friends and neighbors, further embodying his generous spirit.

Paul’s gentle spirit, unwavering kindness, and quiet wisdom left an indelible mark on all who knew him. His influence will continue to resonate through the lives he touched, and his memory will be cherished forever by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Paul is survived by his son Steven (Ann) Ebert of Madison, WI; his daughter Paula (Dick) Scanlon of Lodi, WI; his grandchildren: Rachel (Garrett) Chisholm of Waunakee, WI, and Madeline Ebert (Nolan Masterson) of Wauwatosa, WI; his great-grandchildren: Auden Beaudry and Riley Chisholm of Waunakee, WI; his brother-in-law Max Galler of Waupun, WI, and his sister-in-law Pat (Richard) Henke of Punta Gorda, FL, along with their families.

Paul was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Florence Ebert; his parents, William and Angeline Ebert; his son, William Ebert; his brother, Victor Ebert; his sister and brother-in-law, Delores & Willard Henken; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Peter and Juliet Molter; his niece, Sue Zibung and his nephews, Mark Galler and Richard Henken.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at 12 noon at Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun with Pastor Gwen Loomans officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of service.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of the VA hospital and hospice in Madison along with the staff of Cardinal View Senior Living.

In lieu of flowers it was dad’s wish that you make a monetary donation to the American Red Cross, or to give blood to the same!
