"Cap" was born on April 15, 1919 at the Fure family farm in Eden Township on the Minnesota-Iowa border. He was the 8 th child of Clemet and Anna (Flo) Fure of 11 children and 8 remained his lucky number. His parents also raised a grandson, Kenny Rendall. He was the first in his family to go to high school and graduated from Rake, IA where he was Salutatorian of his class. He played baseball and football there and got his nickname from a coach via Errol Flynn in "Captain Fury." He later graduated from Luther College where he also played baseball and football. Later he entered the U.S. Navy and was at Columbia University in New York City and Newport, Rhode Island where he trained sailors. On March 8, 1944, he married Theresa Cosenza of the Bronx, NY, who he met at a USO dance. Of this union were born 5 children, Rob (Helen) of Lexington, VA, Russ (Deb) of Marquette, MI, Tret (Lauren) of Newport News, VA, and Scot (Kay) of Marquette, MI and Brian, who preceded him in death as an infant.
When he left the Navy, the family moved back to Iowa where he taught at the high schools in Schaller and Story City. He also coached and played semi-pro baseball as a catcher. Later he went with Northwestern Mutual Insurance Company for over 40 years in Iowa and Minnesota, then to Waukegan and Libertyville, IL where he was a District Agent. He then moved to Marquette, MI where he was a General Agent for the Upper Peninsula of MI, down to Grand Rapids, and five counties in WI. During his career he was chairman of 3 Lutheran churches as they were building new churches. He was active in the Marquette Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce, and was President of the Marquette Country Club. He took up golf when he lived in the Chicago area because his oldest son Rob worked at a country club there. During his golfing career, he had 11 holes-in-one; six of them were after he was legally blind. He also enjoyed playing Cribbage and Bridge with his friends at the Beaver Dam Watermark. Poker and Gin Rummy were more games he liked.
On July 31, 1994 he married Jacquelyn Killingsworth Parisi at Grace Presbyterian Church in Beaver Dam. His step children are Joan Killingsworth (Herb Reuss) of Arlington, VA, Mark Killingsworth (Lisa) of Beaver Dam, and Tom Killingsworth (Teresa) of Boise, ID. "Cap" and Jackie enjoyed 24 years at Crystal Lake Club of FL and Beaver Dam.
Percing is survived by his wife, Jackie Fure of Beaver Dam; brother, Wilmer of Faribault, MN; sisters, Wilma Thompson of Albert Lea, MN, and Berdell Trytten of Wells, MN. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, whom he was very fond of.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Odvin, Bernet, Sarah, Lavern, Josephine, Glen, Jennings, and his first wife, Tess.
If desired, memorials may be directed to Luther College in Decorah, IA or to a charity of your choice. Many grateful thanks to BDCH, Hillside Manor, and Randolph Health Services Staff, as well as to Dr. Amy Muchow and Dr. David Hei for their support.
