Phyllis Hartgerink, 87, of Brandon, died Sunday, November 13, 2016 at Marvin’s Manor in Brandon surrounded by her family.


Phyllis was born April 3, 1929 in the town of Alto in Fond du Lac County the daughter of James and Christine Vande Zande Vermeer. On July 17, 1947 she married Milton Hartgerink in Brandon. The couple resided in Brandon most of their married lives. Phyllis was a cook at Brandon school for 30 years. She enjoyed playing cards, attending athletic events, attending concerts as well as cooking for her family. Phyllis was a member of Bethel Reformed Church in Brandon where she enjoyed attending the Senior Bible Study.


Phyllis is survived by two daughters: Connie (David “Charlie”) Blank of Brandon, and Linda (Mark) Sippel of Brandon; a daughter-in-law, Lynda Harmsen of Brandon; seven granddaughters: Heather (Mike) Wegner, Andrea (Joe) Magna, Melissa (Jared) Hoinacki, Michelle (Cody) Farrell, Heidi (Ben) Stanczyk, Samantha (Eric) Schadt, and Kylie Sippel; fifteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Lemmenes of Florida; a brother, Eugene “Butch” Vermeer of Waupun; sisters-in-law: Helen Hartgerink, Mary Hartgerink, and Ardis Redeker; and several nieces and nephews.


Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Hartgerink in 1983; two sons: Larry Hartgerink and Gordon Hartgerink; two brothers: Arnold “Hezzie” Vermeer and Erwin “Jack” Vermeer.


Friends and relatives may call on the family at the church from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m.


Funeral services for Phyllis Hartgerink will be held Thursday, November 17, 2016 at 6 p.m. at Bethel Reformed Church in Brandon with Rev. John Tilstra officiating. A lunch and reception will follow the service.

A private burial will take place at Brandon Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Marvin’s Manor of Brandon for the care given to their mother.
