Phyllis Van Hierden

Phyllis Van Hierden, 90, of Waupun, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at Prairie Ridge Assisted Living. 

Phyllis was born July 19, 1933 in Beaver Dam, the daughter of James and Amanda Kaseman Rollins. Phyllis graduated from Beaver Dam High School in 1951, and then attended two years of nursing school at Methodist Hospital in Madison. On November 28, 1953 she married Henry Van Hierden in Beaver Dam and they lived in Waupun all their married lives. Phyllis worked at Dr. Charles Schrank’s Dental Office for 17 years. She attended Pella Lutheran Church in Waupun where she taught Sunday School, served as Assistant to the Secretary, and served on the altar circle for many years. Phyllis was a member of Fox Lake Country Club where she enjoyed golfing, sewing, and reading and was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary. 

Phyllis is survived by her four children: Karen (Leonard) Kurzynske, Beth Scholke, Thomas (Bonnie) Van Hierden and Mark (Leslie) Van Hierden; eight grandchildren: Katie Van Hierden, Joel (Tara) Kurzynske, Robert (Laura) Scholke, Andrea Kunes, Molly (Ben) Jenkins, Emily (Shawn) Holbach, Abby (Jon) Buwalda, and Dillon Van Hierden; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers: James Rollins and David Rollins. 

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Henry in 2004; her parents; and sisters: Janet Rollins, Lois Kurtz, and Maryln Rollins.

Funeral services for Phyllis Van Hierden will be held Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Pella Lutheran Church in Waupun with Pastor David Knuth officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Mound Cemetery in Waupun. Friends and relatives may call on the family on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
