With great sorrow and much love we mourn the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, Phyllis Vande Kamp, on October 4, 2024. However, we do not grieve like people who have no hope since we know that she is now with Jesus and we will be united with her someday. She was 91 years old.
Phyllis was born on April 3, 1933 in Alto, WI, daughter of Arnold and Jennie (Bresser) Loomans. On June 25, 1952 she was united in marriage to Arthur Vande Kamp. They were married for 68 years and resided in Waupun all of their married lives. Phyllis was employed at Waupun Memorial Hospital in the housekeeping department for over 30 years, where she was known for her friendliness, servant heart, and humming and whistling while she worked. She was the 1984 Waupun Chamber of Commerce “Mother of the Year”.
She was a member of Emmanuel Reformed Church in Waupun where she was well known for her piano and organ playing. Many Sundays she was found playing organ (morning AND evening service) or piano for the choir or for the Ladies Sextet as well as for weddings and funerals in and around Waupun. Even as her health declined and she moved into Assisted Living facilities, she continued with daily piano playing, all by ear. It was amazing! Her biggest joy were her grandkids and great-grandkids. She loved spending time with them, playing Racko, Skip Bo, and Uno along with reading to them and she did whatever else their little hearts desired.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Art; her brothers: Alvin and Howard Loomans; and her sister, Mildred Pluim.
She is survived by her daughters: Sue (Jon) Van Houten, Lori (George) McBride, and Jill (Scott) Alyesworth. She is further survived by seven grandchildren: Ben (Mary) Vande Slunt, Katlyn (Steve) Hansen, Meaghan (Dave) Hayes, Bridgett (Jeremy) Maslovitz, Michael (Keri Anne) McBride, Jennifer (Kevin) Faeh, and Erin Aylesworth. She also is survived by seven great-grandchildren: Maris and Edwin Hansen, Daphne and Norah Vande Slunt, Azzie Hayes, Gemma Maslovitz, and Berkley, Adley and Presley Faeh. She is also survived by a sister-in-law: Geraldine Loomans; her “fourth” daughter/niece, Karla (Larry) Mueller; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Emmanuel Waupun with Pastor Gwen Loomans officiating. Visitation will take place at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
The family wishes to thank the Barrett House in Markesan for their wonderful care and kindness to our mother. A huge thank you to SSM Health Hospice-Green Lake for all of their loving care, especially Janine, Ashley, Doug and Matthew. She loved you all.
