Harold Schouten, 94, of Waupun, formerly of rural Markesan, died Tuesday evening, May 14, 2013 at Marvin’s Manor in Waupun where he resided.




Harold was born October 10, 1918 in the town of Alto, the son of Ben and Henrietta Veenhuis Schouten. On September 25, 1946 he married Sylvia Vande Zande in Alto. Following their marriage the couple resided in the town of Alto all their married lives. They farmed until 1984 at which time they retired. He and Sylvia were fortunate to enjoy traveling together. Harold was a member of Alto Reformed Church where he had been the Sunday School Treasurer. Harold enjoyed bowling for many years. Farming and livestock were important and enjoyable parts of his life. Harold was born on the farm and lived there until recently.

Harold is survived by his wife, Sylvia; two children, Dennis (Cheryl) Schouten of Waupun and Lillian Schouten of Markesan; three grandchildren, Jon (Tara) Schouten Sr. of Tomah, WI, Jeff (Cindy) Schouten of Howard, WI, and Stephanie (Ben) Budzien of Sun Valley, ID; four great-grandchildren, Jonathan Schouten Jr., Jarred Schouten, Cole Schouten, and Averie Schouten; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Gertrude DeBoer and Ruth Veenendaal; a brother, Leonard Schouten; a step-mother, Susie Schouten; and brothers-in-law, Albert DeBoer and Clifford Veenendaal.




Visitation:


Friends and relatives may call on the family on Sunday from 5-7 p.m. at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun and on Monday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.



Services:


Funeral services for Harold Schouten will be held Monday, May 20, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Alto Reformed Church in Waupun with Rev. Ted Medema and Rev. Ted Lindman officiating.



Burial:


Burial will follow at Alto Cemetery.
