Obituary

Randall J. Pollesch, age 61, resident of Badger Prairie Health Care Center in Verona, WI passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2016.

Visitation for Randy will be held on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 181 S. Main St., Markesan from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Dennis Meier officiating. Burial will take place at Manchester Cemetery.

Randy was born on October 28, 1954 in Waupun, WI, the fifth born of ten children to George and LaVerne (Mielke) Pollesch. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Markesan and also attended schools in Markesan. Randy helped on his dad's farm and also worked in the local canning factory during high school.

On his 18th birthday in October of 1972 on opening day of pheasant hunting, he was hunting on his uncle's farm near Markesan. A pheasant flew up and a hunter on the opposite side of the fence row shot at the pheasant, but hit Randy with the shot. He suffered severe injury to his face and head, and as a result had an irreversible brain injury which left him unable to function physically or mentally the rest of his life. He had long stays in hospitals and rehabilitation facilities and finally became a resident of Dane County, where he received his care through State programs. Since October of 2005, he has been a resident at Badger Prairie Health Care Center in Verona where he received the best care of any of the places he was in. He showed happiness in being there, and they genuinely cared for him.

Randy is survived by his brothers, Dennis (Linda), Dan (Diann), Tom (Mary) and Tim (Moria), all of Markesan, Russ (Donna) of Cambria and Dave (Linda) of Kingston; sisters, Kathy (John) Scheier of Marquette and Sandy (Mark Benton) Hamer of Markesan; 17 nieces and nephews and 18 great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Jerrold and one nephew, Matthew Scheier.

Randy didn't get to have a life that was normal, but he had many wonderful caregivers that loved and cared for him and were his friends. He also had the unconditional loving support of his family.
