Raymond R. Chavez Jr. age 62, of Beaver Dam and formerly of Sommers, WI, died peacefully surrounded by his family at Hillside Manor in Beaver Dam on Friday, July 10, 2009. Raymond was born in Bad Axe, Michigan on July 7, 1947 to Raymond and Rachel (nee Linarez) Chavez Sr. He started his professional career in 1973 with the Department of Corrections as an officer, a sergeant and captain of administration. He worked for many institutions throughout the state of Wisconsin including, Taychedah, Fox Lake Correctional, Columbia Correctional, Racine Correctional, Black River Falls Correctional and Racine Youthful Offenders Correctional Facility where he served as union president and retired in 2004 after 31 years of dedicated service. He also worked as a police officer after graduating from Fox Valley Technical College in 1978. Some of the communities he served included, Fox Lake, Dalton and Fall River. After his retirement in 2004, Raymond achieved his dream of owning a Harley Davidson and enjoyed "riding with the guys". Raymond was a strong hardworking man that loved his family, friends and his work. He truly was a leader, mentor and role model. He had a tremendous impact on many people in his life and will be deeply missed by his family and friends

Raymond is survived by his daughters, Rachel M. Chavez, Stephanie Chavez, Heather Chavez, Tracy (Eric) Chavez-Poppy and Robin (James) Buhron all of Beaver Dam; a special niece Tammy Chavez of Racine; special friend and companion, Terry Reyer of Sommers; his father, Raymond Chavez Sr. of Beaver Dam; brothers and sisters, Frances (Tony) Lucero of Beaver Dam, Paul (Sigi) Chavez of Fall River, Phyllis Czarneski of Beaver Dam, Tony (Dan) Chavez of Sheboygan and William (Linda) Chavez of West Bend; grandchildren, Jordan Cash, Gabriella and Christian Chavez-Poppy, Chance Chavez-Schick, Myles Helmer, Cassandra (Jon) Morales, Ryan and Jessica Wagner and Jonathan Kroll; great grandson, Jonathan Morales. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Raymond is preceded in death by his mother Rachel B. Chavez and a sister, Lucille Gonzalez. A Funeral Service for Raymond will be held on Monday, July 13, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 135 Keller Blvd. in Beaver Dam with Rev. Eileen Kuehnl officiating. Visitation will take place on Sunday, July 12, 2009 from 3-5 p.m. at the funeral home and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Service at 11:00 a.m. A Luncheon will immediately follow the funeral at the funeral home.

The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to Raymond's care givers, Terry Reyer; as well as his special niece, Tammy Chavez, who both devoted so much time and attention to his care. A special thank you to St. Luke's Medical Center, N.I.C.U. in Milwaukee and to Hillside Manor and Hillside Hospice for their exceptional care.
