Richard "Dick" Steinbach, age 88, passed away on Friday, October 31, 2025, at Christian Home and Rehab in Waupun.
Richard was born on September 22, 1937, in Medford, Wisconsin, the son of Walter and Amanda Rehbein Steinbach. Dick’s journey began in his hometown, where he graduated high school before furthering his education at St. Olaf College, earning his degree in 1959.
His career as an educator started in Perham, Minnesota, where he not only taught history but also coached basketball. It was there that he met Annette Pederson, marrying her on June 25, 1965. Together, they moved to River Falls, Wisconsin, where Dick continued his passion in education. His calling soon led him into education administration, necessitating further education at North Dakota State University to obtain his Master's degree in Administration. His first administrative role was principal at the middle school in Evansville, Wisconsin.
In 1976, Dick took on the role of principal at Waupun Middle School, a position that would become the cornerstone of his career and responsibility until he retired in 1999. He also took great pride in serving his community, as a member of both the Lions Club in Waupun and the Gideons. On November 27, 1998, Dick married Beneeta Nummerdor. In his free time, Dick was an avid golfer and a passionate gardener. He enjoyed watching the Packers, Badgers, Brewers and Dodgers, and indulging his love for music as a member of the church choir and as a soloist at numerous events. Traveling was also a great passion for Dick. He loved visiting the Smoky Mountains in the fall and taking in the warmth of Mexico and Florida during winter months.
Dick is survived by his wife, Beneeta, of 26 years; two children, Tim (Amy) Steinbach and Gwen (Rick) Badger; and four grandchildren, Ben (Brianna) Steinbach, Erica Steinbach, Ryan (fiancée, Emma) Badger, and Sarah Badger. He also leaves behind Beneeta's two children, Tom (Dana) Nummerdor and Keith (Stacy) Nummerdor, along with their families—Kelsi (Bri) Nummerdor, Andrea (Donavaun) Britton, and Celina (Damon) Jorgensen; and is further survived by other relatives and friends.
Dick was preceded in death by his first wife, Annette, in 1996; his parents, Walter and Amanda Steinbach; his brothers, Gary and Lee Steinbach; and other relatives.
Visitation for Dick will take place on November 8, 2025 at Werner Harmsen Funeral Home from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m.
