Richard Howard Walters

July 22, 1937 — March 23, 2023

Richard Howard Walters, 85, of Waupun, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2023 in Beaver Dam, WI.

Dick was born July 22, 1937 in a house in the little town of Packwaukee, WI, the son of Howard and Lorraine Starke Walters. During WWII they moved to a farm in Marquette County where Dick developed a love for farming. In 1949 he moved to Oxford and graduated in 1955. During high school he met his future wife, Jean Edmunds at Parker Lake Lodge. They got married in June of 1957 in Wisconsin Dells, started a family, and moved to Waupun where they raised their four boys. Dick started working in Waupun at National Rivet, and then at Waupun Memorial Hospital. Then he worked for over two decades as the Dodge County building maintenance supervisor. Because of his excellent knowledge of the hospital layout he was asked to join the Waupun Volunteer Fire Department. He spent decades enjoying the company of his fellow firemen. After retirement he got back into helping on his sister’s family farms near Oxford. Dick spent 56 years with his remarkable wife Jean and his four boys and their families. He loved every single one of them. Dick enjoyed searching for additions to his extensive toy tractor collection as well as working on his 1949 Farmall Cub. He enjoyed traveling with Jean to Montana and to Branson with good friends. He also spent meaningful time in his final years with his special friend, Sharon Peters. Dick was a member of Waupun United Methodist Church. He was a longtime resident of Waupun and was always there to lend a hand to friends and neighbors. He was willing to meet and chat with anyone willing to listen.

Dick is survived by his four sons: Tim (Diane) of Waupun, Mark (Lori) of Kalispell, MT, Daniel (Christina) of Onalaska, and Matthew (Tyra) of Waupun; six grandchildren: Paul, Kristen, Susan, Richard, Madison, and Benjamin; three great-grandchildren: Harvey, Everett, and Milton; sisters: Shirley Kallenbach and Penny (Greg) Lindner; and brother, Dan (Mary) Walters.

Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Jean; his parents; his grandson, Jared; and his brother-in-law, Donald.
