Robert "Bob" L. Laybourn, age 87 of Dalton, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2013 at Divine Savior Hospital in Portage, WI.
Bob was born on May 3, 1926 in Milwaukee, WI to William and Viola (nee Engleking) Laybourn. He proudly served in the United States Army 11th Airborne Division in the South Pacific for three years during World War II. On June 20, 1948, Bob was united in marriage to Elaine Evans at Grace Lutheran Church in Dalton. He worked as a correctional officer at Fox Lake Correctional Institute, as well as a Green Lake County Sheriff Deputy. From 1960 – 1972, he owned Rio Locker in Rio, WI, and he also served as the Town Constable in Dalton for 30 years. In his free time, Bob enjoyed riding his motorcycle, flying his airplane, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bob is survived by his son, Randal (Diane) Laybourn of Dalton; his grandchildren, Rhonda (Gerrick) Rhode, Frank Thalacker, Clint (Darcy) Laybourn, Lisa (Mark) Witthun, Marsha (Jason) Steger and Mark Laybourn; his sister, Generose (Bill) Glover of Kingston and his sister-in-law, Lorraine Laybourn of Markesan. He is further survived by his great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Elaine; daughter, Sandy Thalacker-Granger; two brothers, Roland and Ralph (Myrtle) and other relatives.
A Funeral Service for Robert will be held on Friday, May 10, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 181 S. Main St., Markesan. Visitation will take place prior to the service at the funeral home, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Welsh-Chapel Cemetery, Town of Kingston and a luncheon will follow at Dalton Community Center.
