Robert Sambor, age 64 of Beaver Dam, died peacefully Sunday, August 16, 2015 under the loving care of the Hospice staff at the V.A. Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born July 14, 1951 in Hammond, Indiana. As a young man Bob joined the Navy and served his country in the Vietnam War. He often talked about circumnavigating the world four times during his time in the Navy. After the Navy, Bob worked for a time at a radio station as a journalist and then worked as a steel mill worker on crane operations. He retired from work in Beaver Dam working for Animart as a milk replacement specialist.
Bob loved tinkering with just about anything and was always using his incredible creativity to come up with new building projects to share with his friends. He loved his plants, music, his dog Max, and spending time having a cold beer with friends. Bob always had a new conspiracy theory and was an avid reader. He was known to have many friendly arguments with friends but his uncanny smile always left the conversation on a good note. Bob was fiercely independent and continued that up until his last day, never wanting to be a burden to anyone.
He is survived by his brother, Clint Mieph, his beloved dog Max, his special friend, Deb Hoohihan, and many friends and neighbors in Beaver Dam.
A Memorial Gathering will be held at Dino's Bar and Grill, 404 S. Center Street, in Beaver Dam, on Saturday, August 22, 2015 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. for friends to come and share their memories of Bob.
A special thank you goes to the V.A. Hospital and the Hospice staff whose compassion and care for Bob through his battle with cancer and his final days was outstanding and truly a blessing for our gentle friend.
In honoring Bob's wishes, cremation is taking place.
