Obituary

Roland Lee Salter, age 82 of Markesan, passed away at home in the early morning hours of Saturday, February 5, 2022.

Visitation for Roland will be held on Sunday, February 13, 2022 at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 181 S. Main St., Markesan from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.  Visitation will also take place on Monday, February 14 at Holy Family Parish, 41 St Joseph St., Markesan from 10:00 a.m until the Mass of Christian Burial at ll:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Markesan Memorial Cemetery.

He was born on August 24, 1939 to Clark and Dorothy (Voigt) Salter in Salter, WI, in Washington County.  He lived there until about age 6 when he was placed in a foster home with Stanly and Lillie Lange in Ladoga, WI.  He graduated from Brandon High School in 1957.  He went on to Dodge County Teachers College in Mayville and UW-Whitewater receiving his bachelor's degree in elementary education.

While teaching at one of his first schools he met the love of his life, Mary Werth.  On June 5, 1965, Roland and Mary were united in marriage.  In 1971, Roland and Mary moved to Markesan with their two children, Scott and Celeste.  Twelve years later a second round of children started, bringing Shawn, Kalynne and Courtney.

Roland taught school for the Markesan School District until 1998 and continued to substitute teach. He also served as religious education coordinator and acted as property manager for his son, Scott's, rental properties in Fond du Lac.

He was a devoted husband and father and would help his family in any way he could.  He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.  He leaves behind his wife of 56 years, Mary; daughters, Celeste Salter of Markesan, Kalynne (John) Torok of Powder Springs, GA, Courtney (Jason Zilke) Salter, Muskego, WI; son, Shawn (Wendy) Salter of Portland, OR; daughter-in-law, Asya Salter of Bentonville, AR; grandchildren, Ixchel and Pavel Salter, Taylor, Blaeith and Sol Salter, Aldi Torok and Franklin Zilke. He is further survived by brothers, Russell and Glen Salter and sister, Vivian Reimer.

He is proceeded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Robert (Bob) and Irene Werth; son, Scott Salter; brothers, Kenneth and Francis; and sister, Harriot Reid.
