Ruby Ann Sommer Hendrickson, age 89, passed away on Monday, June 10, 2013 at Golden Living Center - Continental Manor in Randolph.
Born on May 15, 1924, in Scott Township, Columbia County, Wisconsin, Ruby was the daughter of Fred and Jessie (Braaksma) Sommer. During and just after World War II, Ruby lived and worked in Beaver Dam. She constructed service shoes at Weyenberg Shoe Factory, prepared meals in the kitchen at Wayland Academy and tended patients at the Lutheran Deaconness Hospital. Otherwise, Cambria was home for nearly all her years, where she was a member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church and active with the Ladies Aid.
Ruby married Orville Hendrickson on March 27, 1947. They farmed together for more than 25 years before moving into town. Ruby then spent summers at Larsen Canning Company and winters traveling, cooking and doting on her grandchildren. Fishing with her grandsons, painting, gardening and doing puzzles were other much-loved hobbies.
Ruby is survived by two children, Linda (Dave) Bradley of Fox Lake and Lee Hendrickson (special friend Priscilla) of Cambria; three grandchildren, Lana (Craig) Knoener of Appleton, Heath (Rachel) Hendrickson of Beaver Dam and David (Jessica) Bradley of Beaver Dam; and five great-grandchildren, Sommer Knoener, Chloe, Lukas and Alydia Bradley and Grayson Hendrickson. She is further survived by her sister, Leona Schaller of Columbus and two sisters-in-law, Lillian DeVries of Friesland and Lois Hendrickson of Cambria, as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Ruby was preceded in death by her brother, William, and several brothers- and sisters-in-law.
A Funeral Service for Ruby will be held on Friday, June 14, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 135 Keller Blvd., Beaver Dam with Rev. Roger Wahl officiating. Visitation will take place prior to the service at Cornerstone, beginning at 9:30 a.m. A luncheon will be served immediately following the service at Cornerstone. Ruby will be laid to rest next to her husband Orville at Cambria Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staff at Golden Living Center - Continental Manor and AseraCare Hospice, as well as Dr. Sam Poser, for their compassionate and patient care of Ruby during her final years.
