Ruby M. Westhuis

Ruby M. Westhuis, age 108, of Waupun, passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2026.

Ruby was born on November 14, 1917 in Alto, the daughter of Ralph and Myrel Zastrow Vant Hull. Ruby married Harvey William Volkman on November 26, 1938 and the couple lived in Waupun and Harvey died in 1965. In 1971 Ruby married Albertus Westhuis and the couple continued living in Waupun. Albertus died in 1988, and Ruby has lived in Waupun with her son, Jim Volkman ever since. Ruby worked as a nursing assistant at The Christian Home for 17 years, retiring in 1963. Ruby was a faithful member of Emmanuel Reformed Church in Waupun.

Ruby is survived by a son, James Volkman of Waupun; step-children: Steven Westhuis, Mark Westhuis, and Linda Novak; several step-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Ruby was preceded in death by a son, Victor Volkman; a step-son, David Westhuis; husbands: Harvey Volkman and Albertus Westhuis; brothers: Wilbur, Ralph, Harlan, Myron, Lawrence, and Edwin Hull; and sisters: Genevieve Hoekstra, Marie Henning, and Helen Graham.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 25, 2026 at 11:30 am at Werner Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun with Kanon Smit officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Mound Cemetery in Waupun. Friends and relatives may call on the family on Saturday at the funeral home from 9:30 am until the 11:30 am time of service.
