Sharon R Groy

March 14, 1947 — May 28, 2025

Sharon R. Groy, age 78, peacefully departed this world on May 28, 2025 at her home.

Sharon was born March 14, 1947, the daughter of Lawrence and Josephine (Van Buren) Westhuis. After graduating from Brandon High School in 1965, Sharon embarked on a journey that would lead her to marry James Groy. They were married May 29, 1971 and together they created a loving household filled with joy and compassion. Sharon loved working as a CNA and teacher’s aide, tirelessly managing daily life while also taking on numerous other jobs. Her versatility and dedication were traits that defined her character.

Sharon's passions were diverse, and she poured her heart into each one. From sewing and crocheting to canning, paint by number, and solving puzzles she approached her hobbies with a sense of joy and creativity. A devout Christian, Sharon found solace in listening to gospel music and sermons, often sharing her faith and kindness with others. Her seven years as a Sunday school teacher were marked by her vibrant teaching style and an open heart, which allowed countless children to feel loved and accepted. She was not only fun-loving, but also encompassed warmth and comfort, always opening her home to those in need. Her love extended far beyond her immediate family; she cherished animals and shared a special bond with her dear dog, Snowball.

Sharon is survived by her three daughters: Denee (Jeff) Kolehmainen, Sharonlyn (Jay) Hoffman, and Jody (Korbin Putzer) Turnes; ten grandchildren: Shawn (Megan) Turnes, Justin (Beverly Durkin) Turnes, Brady Turnes, EvaJo (Alex Sobrilsky) Turnes, Ryer Turnes, Sarah (Jack) Warner, Tyler (Kelly) Kolehmainen, Allyssa (Tyler) Ahlborn, Katelyn Kolehmainen, and Bella Putzer; great-grandchildren: Isaiah Lopez, Harper, Maci, and Addyson Turnes, and Natalie and Everett Warner; her sister, Mary Holzman; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Larry Groy, Carolyn (Clyde) Born, Janice Winchell, and Pherris Groy; and many nieces and nephews.

Sharon was preceded in death by husband James Groy; her parents; her son-in-law, John Turnes; her beloved mother and father-in-law, Dorothy (Vankirk) Groy; and her sisters: Marilyn Westhuis and Donna (Wally) Winchell.

As we celebrate Sharon’s life, let us remember the warmth, laughter, and love she brought into our lives. She truly made the world a better place, and her memory will forever remain etched in our hearts.
