Obituary

Sharon R. (nee Lofthus) Weisensel age 68 of Fox Lake, died on Tuesday March 23, 2010 at her home from Ovarian cancer.
Sharon was born April 6, 1941 in Green Bay, Wisconsin, the daughter of Lt. Col. Paul B.Lofthus and Joyce M. (nee Wensel) Lofthus. Joyce was an accomplished pianist and school music teacher.
Sharon and her brother Bill were military kids and followed their father throughout Europe and the United States before settling in the Madison area. Sharon attended Madison West High School and the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she received a music scholarship and a B.S. degree in Social Work. Along with being a licensed social worker, Sharon was a real estate agent and AODA Level III counselor. After marriage came the boys. The trio kept Sharon busy as homemaker, chauffer and referee before returning to work at non-profit agencies.
Sharon and Ken retired to Fox Lake about 10 years ago, enjoying fishing off the pier in spring, growing her flowers with a passion, sweet bike rides, an obsession with family history, playing clarinet with the Beaver Dam summer band, and 11 perfect cruises.
Sharon was a member of Garden Club, Annunciation Catholic Parish, Library Friends, Fox Lake Library board member and American Legion Auxiliary #521.

Sharon is survived by her husband Kenneth Arthur of Fox Lake; three sons, Kevin Paul (Marie) Weisensel , Erik Thor (Christine) Weisensel, Loren William Weisensel; grandchildren, Madisen, Adeline, Grace, Drew, Taylor and Kendall. She is further survived by her brother; William L. Lofthus, uncle Garth (Doris) Wensel, aunt Alice (nee Lofthus) & Mathew Prawdzik and other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

"My Mom was 66 when she called me to tell me she had ovarian cancer. Cancer seems to seek our family as she was the third of the five of us to hear that she had the disease. Being a cancer survivor myself and seeing my Dad beat it, I figured it would be treatable and Mom would join us as being able to brag about kicking cancer's butt, I was wrong. I didn't know about Ovarian cancer and what it was capable of. My Mom was a tough lady and fought cancer for three years with incredible highs and lows. I guess it when she had her second surgery that I realized that at some point cancer was going to take her and it was just a matter of time." (Written by Erik Weisensel)
