Shirley A. Canniff, age 79, of Juneau, passed away at home on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 surrounded by her family.

Shirley was born on April 23, 1931 in Watertown to Louis and Johanna (nee Maas) Kohls. She lived in Watertown until 1958, and then moved to Juneau. On March 19, 1960, she married Ross Canniff at St. Stephen's United Church of Christ in Juneau, where she was a member. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Shirley was the deli manager at Piggly Wiggly in Juneau, and prior to that she did babysitting at home.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Ross of Juneau; three daughters, Jane (Daniel) Jahnke of Juneau, Julie (Todd) Peterson of Burnett, and JoDee (Brett) Rechek of Beaver Dam; nine grandchildren, Christine (Scott) Karow, Erica (Robert) Fredenberg, Wesley Jahnke, Tiffany, Tanya and Troy Peterson, Jake, Nick and Hunter Rechek; four great-granddaughters, Kimberly and Megan Karow, Jenessa Knoll and Ashlyn Fredenberg; and one great-grandson to be born in December. She is further survived by one sister, Betty (Leroy) Schilberg of Oconomowoc, one sister-in-law, Judy (Ted) Egan of Athelstane, WI, one brother-in-law, Tracy Canniff of Juneau, nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and her loving companion dog, Buffy.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Margi Watson and Evelyn Kohls; and two brothers, Eugene and Richard Kohls.

In honoring Shirley's wishes, a private family service was held and burial took place at Juneau City Cemetery.

The family would like to express a special thank you to all of the wonderful, caring staff at Rainbow Hospice in Jefferson for the loving care they provided.
