Obituary

Shirley Haldemann (Johnston), age 73 of Randolph, and formerly of Janesville, passed away after a short illness of heart failure on Friday, June 14, 2024 at Rainbow Hospice Inpatient center in Johnson Creek.

A celebration of life for Shirley will take place on Friday, June 21, 2024 at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 135 Keller Blvd., Beaver Dam, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Private family interment will take place at Friesland Cemetery.

Shirley was born in Lawton, OK to Gordon & Luella (nee Squires) Johnston. She graduated from Beaver Dam High School in 1968.  On April 26, 1969 she married the love of her life, Dennis Haldemann. Shirley was a candy striper when Dennis was training in the Army. She ran a daycare in their home and together they took in several foster children and exchange students. After the day care Shirley worked for 20 years on the night shift at General Motors, primarily in the paint dept.

She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-granddaughter and teaching them life skills. She was an avid crocheter and has donated scarves and lap blankets to Rock Haven Nursing home in Janesville, WI and a homeless group in Janesville. She was a wiz at sewing and could create sewing projects simply from you telling her what you wanted or drawing a picture. She made beautiful christening gowns. Shirley loved baking for others, playing cards every chance she could and visiting with her girl cousins monthly. She enjoyed vacationing in AZ and has gained many new friends over the past 10 years.

Shirley is survived by her children, Sheila (Thaddeus) McNally, Jason (Stacey A) Haldemann, and Chris (Stacey R) Haldemann all of Janesville; 8 grandchildren, Ryan (Emily) McNally, Bryce, Owen, Sawyer, Tristan, Wayden, Harper, Grayson Haldemann; great-granddaughter Hailey McNally; siblings, Wayne Ristau, Joyce Plagenz, Betty (Henry) Nadolski, Gordy (Jeanne) Johnston, Barb (Richard) Koch, Robert (Tracy) Johnston; foster children Allisha, Carol, Delores, Jenny; exchange students Anja and Indira; and further survived by many other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband Dennis; mother; father; stepmother, June Johnston; sister, Janet Conrad; brother, Kenneth Conrad; sister-in-law, Colleen Ristau; brother-in-law, Jim Plagenz; mother-in-law, Evelyn Haldemann; father-in-law, Ed Haldemann; foster son, Pete Elmer; and other relatives.

If desired, memorials in Shirley's name can be made to Project 16:49, Rainbow Hospice, or (C.O.P.S.).
