Obituary

Shirley J. Hartl, age 86 of Beaver Dam, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 23, 2011 at Hillside Manor in Beaver Dam, surrounded by her family.

Shirley was born on March 22, 1925 to Arnold and Helen (nee Muenster) Giese. She graduated from Waupun High School and later worked at Weyenberg Shoe Factory and at Metal Craft in Mayville as the administrative assistant for the president of the company. On June 25, 1943 she was united in marriage to John Duehring in Beaver Dam and they had two sons, Larry and Bob. John preceded her in death on September 12, 1952. On July 24, 1954 she was united in marriage to Raymond Hartl in Beaver Dam until his passing. Shirley loved gardening, cooking and canning. She was especially fond of camping as she was a founding member of Wisconsin Campers Association and one of their oldest members of over 50 years. Shirley was a very giving person and loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Her loving discipline and teaching of respect will be something they take with them throughout their lives. She also was a member of First Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam.
Shirley is survived by her grandchildren, Paul (Barb) Hartl of Beaver Dam, Michelle (Todd) Smith of Beaver Dam, Kim (Dave) Bubolz of Fox Lake, Noah (fiancée Mailor Lee) Hartl of St. Paul, MN, Jodi (John) Exner of Janesville, Brian (Ally) Hartl of Beaver Dam; 11 great-grandchildren, daughter-in-law, Carol (Jerry) Indermuehle of Colorado; sister, Marlene (Edward) Jaquet of Oshkosh and a sister-in-law, Mary Giese of Beaver Dam. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, John and Raymond; two sons, Larry Hartl and Robert (Chris) Hartl; two grandchildren, Nichole Hartl and Robert Hartl Jr.; siblings, Bernice Evans, Eleanor Allen, Kenneth Giese and other relatives.

A Funeral Service for Shirley will be held on Monday, December 26, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at First Ev. Lutheran Church, 311 W. Mackie St. in Beaver Dam with Rev. Dr. Mark Molldrem officiating. Visitation will take place prior to the funeral at the Church, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens, Town of Trenton and a luncheon will be served back at the Church.

Memorials in Shirley's name may be directed to the Beaver Dam Fire Department.
