Abendroth
August 21, 1941 – September 13, 2025
Sieglinde Abendroth passed away peacefully on September 13, 2025.
Visitation for Sieglinde will take place on Friday, September 19, 2025, at Markesan United Methodist Church, 74 E. Catherine St., Markesan from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Joseph Christopher officiating. Burial will follow at Phelps Cemetery.
She was born on August 21, 1941, in Nurtingen, Germany to Paul and Anna (Hahn) Seitz, the youngest of six children. After completing school in Nurtingen, Sieglinde worked in various places including a sewing factory and bookstore in her hometown, nursing homes in England and at an orphanage in Switzerland. In 1967, Sieglinde met William (Bill) Abendroth, and on August 22, 1969, they were married, after which she joined him in Markesan, Wisconsin. She and Bill lived their entire married lives raising their three children in the community there.
Sieglinde lived a life deeply rooted in her faith and unwavering devotion to the Lord. As a dedicated member of Markesan United Methodist Church, she served faithfully over the years—participating in various church committees, teaching Sunday School, and singing in the church choir. She was also an active and committed member of the Gideon Ladies Auxiliary, serving until she was no longer able to do so. Sieglinde quietly lived out her faith through acts of kindness—sharing home-cooked meals, baked goods, and her time with those in need. Her life was a reflection of her deep love for God and her commitment to serving others.
Sieglinde was well known for her exceptional cooking and baking with her homemade spaetzle dinners being a beloved favorite. At Christmas time, Sieglinde took great joy in baking over 20 varieties of cookies to share with friends and neighbors. Sieglinde enjoyed traveling and made frequent trips to Germany to visit friends and family. She found pleasure in many hobbies, including playing the piano, gardening, crafts, and enjoying games with loved ones. Sieglinde treasured time spent with her family. She was a devoted mother and Oma, whose warmth, generosity, and love will be deeply missed.
Her husband, Bill, preceded her in death in 2006. She is also preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Anne Dauner, Mathilde Seitz, Else Seitz, Paulernst Seitz, and Reinhold Seitz. Sieglinde is survived by her son, Eric Abendroth of Rothschild, WI; her daughter Christiane Abendroth (Jeffery Graves) of Broomfield, CO; her daughter Karen (Matt) Austin of Markesan, WI; brother-in-law Immanuel Dauner; sister-in-law Lore Seitz; her four grandchildren, Amalie, Ginger, Sam, and Wyatt; and nieces and nephews.
The family would like to sincerely thank the Markesan Resident Home staff for the wonderful care she received there.
