Somphong "Som" Chareunsouk, age 50 of Beaver Dam, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 23, 2012 at his home after a long battle with cancer. He spent much of his time visiting family and friends.
Som was born in the Champassak province of Laos on February 4, 1962 to Sone and Daeng Vongsoulath. He immigrated to the United States in July of 1981 after fleeing from a communist-led Laos to Thailand. He went to High School and then attended college at Central College in Pella, Iowa. He moved to Beaver Dam where he was the head chef at China Palace for 10 years before going to work for Create-A-Pack in Ixonia in 2000 and the Blew Inn in Juneau in 2001.
Som enjoyed cooking, fishing, watching sports and spending time with his family. He was an avid Packers, Brewers, Badgers and Hawkeye fan. His all-time favorite player was Reggie White. Loved by many, he was always known for his kind heart and gentle spirit.
Som is survived by his partner, Anny; 3 loving children, Brandin, Tenee (Thomas), Antonio; his brother Thip and a sister Xay in Laos. Other survivors include many extended family members here and in Laos.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his older brother, Banhnyon.
A Funeral Service for Som will be held on Monday, November 26, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., 135 Keller Blvd. in Beaver Dam with Rev. Sonja Parr officiating. Visitation will also take place on Monday at Cornerstone from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Service.
The family would like to thank the staff at Hillside Hospice and the U.W. Hospital Oncology team for their tireless efforts during these last few months.
